Tuesday, March 3  Numbers 1-2; Psalm 64; Hebrews 11

Numbers 1:  Who did the census include and what seems to be the purpose of the census? Who was not included in the census? Why?

Numbers 2: What was at the center of the encampment and what other purpose did the census serve?

Hebrews 11: How is faith defined?  Who from the Old Testament does the author point to in terms of models of faith?

Journal Prompt: Write out Hebrews 11:1. What are some of the things that you do to grow stronger in your faith?

Numbers 1:  The purpose of the census appears to determine the size of the military as included in the count were men twenty years and older who were able to serve in the army.   There were 603,550 men of military age.  The Levites were not to be counted (at this point) as they would not be in the army – they would be responsible for all things related to the Tabernacle – setting it up, carrying it, caring for its contents, etc.

Numbers 2:  The center of the encampment was the Tabernacle – all of the tribes were to set up camp surrounding the Tabernacle – at some distance with the Levites to be in the innermost ‘circle’.

Hebrews 11: In verse 1: ” Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Noah, Abraham, Moses, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David and Samuel are models of faith.
