Tuesday | 2-April | Joshua 9-10; Ps 40; John 8 |
Joshua 9: How were Joshua and the Israelites misled? (I got ahead of myself yesterday!). What became of the Gibeonites?
Joshua 10: What did the King of Jerusalem do? And what was the result? Why did the sun stand still?
John 8: What great “I am” declarations are made in this chapter?
Joshua 9: Joshua was misled by some men from Gibeon who pretended to be from a distant country claiming to come to the Israelites because they wanted to serve their God. Joshua and the Israelites made a covenant with them without consulting wtih God. The Gibeonites were allowed to live in the Promised land, but they were in a sense servants – they were the woodcutters and drawers of water (They drew water) for the congregation and for the altar.
Joshua 10: The king of Jerusalem conspired with other kings to attack Gibeon because they had struck a bargain with the Israelites. The Lord prevailed on Israel’s behalf and all of the kings’ cities were conquered and the kings were put to death. The sun stood still because Joshua asked God to do this.
John 8: Jesus declared, “I am the light of the world.” and “I am he (the son of Man)” and “before Abraham was, I am”.
