Numbers 17:  Why did God command all the leaders of the tribes to bring a staff?

Luke 4: What scripture did the devil use (or misuse) to tempt Jesus? Why were the people who heard Jesus preach in his hometown of Nazareth filled with wrath towards him?

Journal Prompt: How can scripture be misused for personal purposes?

Answers

Numbers 16: Korah, Dathan, On, and Abiram with 250 men rebelled against Moses and Aaron saying they should not be exalted over the rest of them.  They claimed the entire congregation was holy.  Moses was particularly upset because in a sense as Levites they were separated to serve in the Temple, but they were envious and jealous and they and their families died because of it.

Numbers 17: God was going to choose a spiritual leader for the congregation – the staff that sprouted would be the leaders.  The following morning Aaron’s staff not only sprouted, it also had an almond flour and an almond!

Luke 4: He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ (Psalm 91:11) On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. (Psalm 91:12)

Jesus stood up before them, read from the Isaiah passage in which the one speaking in this Isaiah passage is the Anointed One; the Messiah, the Christ.   And Jesus goes on to say that He was fulfilling that scripture.  When they questioned His pedigree, He reminded them of Elijah being sent o Sidon to the widow rather than help any widow in Israel.  So, I believe that He was saying He was not going to be performing miracles for them, but rather to others where God would send them.
