Deuteronomy 27 & 28: What was the first thing they were commanded to do once they crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land?  How would you sum up the blessings and curses in one or two sentences?

Deuteronomy 29: What is the result of following the terms of the covenant (v. 9)?  What is the peril in thinking God will bless you even if you do not obey His word? (v. 19-20)

Deuteronomy 30:  Where is the word? What choices does God give His people (v. 15)?

Deuteronomy 31:  How many times does Moses tell Joshua to be strong and courageous? What always follows this exhortation?
Luke 12: What happens when we publicly acknowledge Jesus? Who will not be forgiven? Summarize the parable of the Rich Fool.

Journal Prompt:  Deuteronomy 27 and 28 are pretty dire warnings to God’s people should they choose disobedience.  You can find lots of words that are very similar to what we are seeing in the news:  disease, plague, fever, confusion of mind, severe and lingering illnesses, every kind of sickness.  These are Old Testament curses which are in stark contrast to the blessings that God intends for His people.  Then we read Deuteronomy 30:2-3, 6.  If you could send a message that everyone in our nation would listen to, what would it be?

Deuteronomy 27 & 28: The first thing the Israelites were commanded to do once they crossed the Jordan into the Promised Land was to build an altar to the Lord with the commandments written on the stones, then they were to sacrifice, and rejoice in the presence of the Lord. Then they were to hear the curses and the blessings.

Deuteronomy 29: The result of following the covenant is prosperity in every way.  If a person hears the work and thinks they will receive a blessing even if they are not obedient to God’s laws then that person will not be forgiven.

Deuteronomy 30: The Word is in our hearts and in our mouths.  God gives His children the choice of life and prosperity or death and destruction.  He tells them to “choose life” (v. 19)

Deuteronomy 31: Moses tells Joshua three times to be strong and courageous in chapter 31 (v. 6, 7, and 23). Each of these admonitions is followed by the promise that God will be with them.

Luke 12: When we publicly acknowledge Jesus, He will publicly acknowledge us before the angels of God.  Jesus says anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. The parable of the Rich Food teaches us to watch our lives closely for signs of greed. We should not store up (hold tightly to) possessions, but we are to be generous to others.
