Journal Prompt: David was employed by Israel’s enemy during this dark time in his life. Write about this.

Answers:

1 Samuel 25: One of the young men (I’m assuming this was someone who worked for her husband, because this young man refers to Nabal as his master.) warned Abigail that her household was in danger because her husband refused to offer hospitality to David’s men. Abigail referred repeatedly as ‘my lord’ and she offered him food and pointed out the fact that if he killed Nabal he would have blood on his hands (he would have to face the Lord)  She said “<once God> has appointed you prince[d] over Israel, 31 my lord shall have no cause of grief or pangs of conscience for having shed blood without cause or for my lord working salvation himself.

1 Samuel 26: Abner was the military commander of Saul’s army, and David called him on the carpet for not doing a better job of protecting Saul from David  – as he could have easily killed him, but didn’t.

1 Samuel 27: It seems that David was thinking that the third time would be the charm for Saul.  Saul had tried to kill him twice, but David hand managed to get away.  He decided not to give Saul another chance to kill him, so he fled to the land of the Philistines and got a job as a mercenary killing non-Israelites.

Acts 12: Herod killed James which pleased the Jews, so Herod imprisoned Peter.  Peter wascaped because angels appeared and set him free.  The guards who had been watching Peter were killed by Herod.
