Numbers 32: What request did the tribes of Reuben and Gad make and what was Moses’ response?

Numbers 33: This chapter is basically a recap of the exodus journey – it’s well worth reading. Refer to the map that was posted previously!  What did the Lord warn them of in verse 55?

Luke 9: What did Jesus command the twelve aposles?  Who went with Jesus to the mountain of transfiguration?  What happened?  Of those who were killed, do any names stand out?  Why was Moses angry wtih the officers of the army?

Journal Prompt: What does a man profit if he gains the world but loses his soul?

Answers:

umbers 31: The Israelites went to war against the Midianites.  They defeated them, killing all the males.  Among those killed was Balaam. Moses was angry because they allowed the Midianite women to live.

Numbers 32:  The tribes of Reuben and Gad requested Moses to allow them to settle in the area on the other side of the Jordan – this was not part of Canaan.  Moses included the half tribe of Manasseh as well.  This land was land they had conquered after the wars with “the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories.” (v. 33)

Reuben, Gad and Manasseh agreed to fight with the Israelites to conquer the Promised Land.

Numbers 33:  God warned them, ” But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those of them whom you let remain shall be as barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall trouble you in the land where you dwell.: (v. 55)

Luke 9: Jesus commanded the apostles to: ““Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”

Peter, John and James went with Jesus.  When Jesus was transfigured, his face was altered and his clothes became dazzling white.
