Esther 8: What did the king do? What was the response of the people?
Galatians 5:What is the issue that Paul is bringing up? What does Paul hope will happen to those who are trying to lead the believers astray?
Journal Prompt: What does Paul mean when he says we are to “Live by the Spirit” and “keep in step with the Spirit”?
Answers:
Esther 7: She asked the king to spare her life and the life of the Jewish people.
Esther 8: The king had Mordecai write an edict saying that the Jews had a right to defend and avenge themselves if attacked – and that they could take any plunder from their attackers. The people rejoiced and many converted to Judaism because of this.
Galatians 5: The issue is circumcision. They are trying to convince the new believers that circumcision is necessary, but Paul believes that is a Law-based mentality.
Paul hopes those who are leading the believers astray (away from the gospel of grace back toward a doctrine of works-based faith) will castrate themselves.
