Weds 23-Jan-19 Exodus 11-12 Proverbs 10 Matthew 20

Today we a very short chapter in the book of Exodus, followed by a very long one!

Exodus 11: What plague did Moses announce? What did the Lord tell Moses to ask the Egyptians for?

Exodus 12: What did God tell the Hebrews to change (remake)? What instructions did the Lord tell Moses to tell the people?  What is another name for the Passover? What was the result of the final plague? What did Pharaoh ask Moses before the exodus? How many people were in the exodus?

Proverbs 10: What makes a mother and father happy?

Matthew 20: What paradoxical statements does Jesus make? Why were the disciples angry with James and John?

Journal Prompt: Jesus says the ‘last will be first’ in the kingdom of God. What does that look like in your life?

Answers:

Exodus 11:  Moses warned Pharaoh of a plague that would kill the first born children and livestock. God told Moses to ask the Egyptians for gold and silver.

Exodus 12: God told them that their calendar would change – that this event would be so signficant they would start their calendar with this event.  God gave them instructions to select a lamb on the 10th day of the month and to kill it on the 16th day, to eat it with their  belt fastened, sandals on their feet, and a staff in their hand. And you shall eat it in haste. They shall also take blood from the lamb and paint it on their doorpost so the angel of death would ‘pass over’ their homes protecting them.

Proverbs 10:  A wise son brings happiness to his parents.

Matthew 20: These are paradoxical The last will be first, and the first last.” (v.16);  crucified and raised (v. 19); whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, (v. 26-28). The disciples were angry because they found out that James and John, along with their mother, had asked Jesus to be seated at His right and at His left in the coming kingdom.  The result was the Pharaoh told them to leave, but firs the asked Moses to give him a blessing. There were 600,000 men plus women and children.
