Wednesday, February 26: Leviticus 19-20; Hebrews 7

Leviticus 19: Write down the general commandments in this chapter and ask God to give you insight and revelation.

Leviticus 20: What ritual was involved in the worship of the god Molech? And what was the punishment for this? Why does God detest the ‘other’ nations?

Hebrews 7: Who was Melchizedek?

Journal Prompt:  Why do you think the author of Hebrews is making such a big point about Melchizedek?

Leviticus 19: Honor your father and mother, honor the Sabbath, do not worship or make idols.

Verse 18: “but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

Leviticus 20: The ritual of sacrificing children to the god Molech. God detests the nations for their horrible acts including child sacrifice, sexual immorality and more.

Hebrews 7:  Mechilzedek was a priest who Abraham met in the desert (Genesis 14) and Abraham gave him a tithe.  This is from Ellicott’s commentary: “The typical value of Melehizedek’s priesthood lies not merely in his being “king of righteousness and king of peace,” but even more in his priesthood being universal, limited by no external ordinances, and attached to no particular race or people. Moreover, he is a king-priest (Psalms 110), and by taking precedence of Abram. and blessing him, and receiving of him tithes, he became the representative of a higher priesthood than any that could spring from Abram’s loins.

Hebrews 7:26 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.
