Leviticus 8:  Contemplate the consecration process required for the priests.

Leviticus 9:  Why and how did the glory of the Lord appear to the people? What was their response?

Leviticus 10:  Who were Nadab and Abihu and what did they do wrong? Who were Eleazar and Ithamar and what was their role?

Proverbs 19: Which of these proverbs speaks to you?

Mark 7: Why did Jesus condemn the Pharisees?  (Reading or listening to the first 10 chapters of Leviticus may help you to understand the Pharisees.) Summarize verses 14-23.

Journal Prompt: How can you be like the Pharisees, trying so hard to be perfect in the Lord’s eyes yet overlooking sin in your life?

Answers:

Leviticus 9: After Aaron and his sons purified themselves according to the Lord’s instructions (cleansing themselves, sacrificing the animals, anointing themselves and the altar with blood from the sacrifice, and placing the sacrificed animals on the altar), they entered the tent of meetings.  When they came out, they blessed the people  and then the glory of the Lord appeared as a fire which consumed the sacrificed animals on the altar.  The people shouted and fell on their faces.

Leviticus 10:  Nadab and Abihu were Aaron’s sons and fellow priests.  They offered incense to God without going through the prescribed process, so they were killed.  Eleazar and Ithamar were the younger sons of Aaron. They took the place of the two older brothers.

Mark 7:  He condemned them for their traditions which made the Law the idol rather than the Law-giver.  They were also hypocrites, judgmental and self-righteous.  They put such heavy burdens on everyone, yet it was not out of love for God or for others- and they were not practicing what they required of their followers.
