Wednesday, February 12: Exodus 25-27; Psalm 90; Philippians 1

Exodus 25: What instructions does the Lord give Moses during the forty days that Moses is in His presence on the mountain?  What is the ‘ark of the covenant’ and what is to be placed in it?

Exodus 26-27: Why do you think God gave Moses such detailed instructions about the design and construction of the Tabernacle?

Philippians 1: How have Paul’s circumstances served to further the gospel? What is the most important thing? (v. 18?)

Journal Prompt: What does it mean to live a life worthy of the gospel (Philippians 1:27)?

ANSWERS

Exodus 25:  God gave Moses instructions about building a Sanctuary. his is also referred to as the Tabernacle and the Tent of Meeting – a place where God’s presence will be – where men will approach God, sacrifice to Him and worship Him. The ark of the covenant is case which will house the ten commandments (at this point). The offerings came (in large part) from the items that were given (the plunder) to the Israelites from the Egyptians before they left Egypt.

Exodus 26-27: The Tabernacle was to be God’s ‘dwelling place” the place where God would manifest His presence among the people.  The instructions were so specific, because this was a holy place for God Himself.  As we read these, we can get hung up in the details, but these were like verbal blueprints.  Consider the great cathedrals of the world and the amount of detail that was put into them.  Personally, I sometimes question the amount of money that was spent to build them, but I would like to believe that the desire to build something that glorifies God and honors Him is the driving force behind their design as well.

Philippians 1:  Paul was able to share the gospel with others in jail – including the palace guard, and they have come to know Jesus.  The most important thing is that Christ is preached.
