Wednesday 10-April Joshua 23-24; Eccl 6:7-12; John 15

Joshua 23 and Joshua 24: What did Joshua remind the Israelites about in his final speech? What does this remind you of? How old was Joshua when he died and where was he buried? Who else’s death is noted here?

John 15: What “I am” statement does Jesus make in this chapter?  What are we (v. 5)?  How is God glorified according to verse 8?  And what is the result for us?

Journal Prompt:  God gives us the freedom to make a choice.  What are the consequences of choosing NOT to serve the Lord according to the passages in Joshua and John that we have read today?  How does this motivate you?

John 15:  Jesus says “I am the vine”.  We are the branches.  God is glorified when we  “bear much fruit and so prove to be Jesus’s disciples.”  The result for us of being His disciples, following His commands and bearing fruit is abundant joy.

Joshua 23 and 24: Joseph reminded the Israelites in his final speech about the importance of loving God, clean to him and keeping his commandments. He reminded them that God would always provide for them as long as they lived according to his commands. This is very similar to Moses his farewell speech. They remind the Israelites of the great blessings and provision of the Lord but at the same time The Israelites are warned that if they intermarried with foreigners and if they follow other gods that their blessing will be lost and God will for sake them.Joshua was 110 years old when he died and he was buried in Timnath-serah in the hill country of Ephesians where he had received his inheritance. They also noted that Eleazer, the son of Aaron, died and they noted that the bones of Joseph (which they had carried for forty years in the wilderness) were buried at Shechem.
