Tuesday, March 17  Numbers 34-36; Luke 4

Numbers 34: Who was responsible for assigning the land to the tribes?

Numbers 35: How many towns were the Levites to receive?  What was the purpose of a city of refuge? What pollutes the land?

Numbers 36: What stipulation was placed upon the daughters of Zelophoad and other daughters who would receive an inheritance of land?

Luke 4: What scripture did the devil use (or misuse) to tempt Jesus? Why were the people who heard Jesus preach in his hometown of Nazareth filled with wrath towards him?

Journal Prompt: Read Jesus’ mission statement (as prophesied by Isaiah).  When we accept Christ as our Savior, we too are anointed by the Holy Spirit.  Do you sense this anointing?  If so, in what way?  If not, why not . . and what can you pray in this regard?

Numbers 34: Joshua, Eleazar the priest and one leader from each of the 9 1/2 tribes would assign the land to the tribes.

Numbers 35: The Levites did not receive a land inheritance as the other tribes did. Their inheritance was to serve God as priests, guards and caretakers of the Tabernacle.  God told the other tribes to allot cities and pastures around the cities for them to live in.  A city of refuge is a place where someone could go if accused of manslaughter while he awaited justice.

Numbers 36: The daughters of Zelophahad were required to marry within their tribes, so the inheritance of the land wouldn’t pass from one tribe to another.

Luke 4: He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’ (Psalm 91:11) On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. (Psalm 91:12)

Jesus stood up before them, read from the Isaiah passage in which the one speaking in this Isaiah passage is the Anointed One; the Messiah, the Christ.   And Jesus goes on to say that He was fulfilling that scripture.  When they questioned His pedigree, He reminded them of Elijah being sent o Sidon to the widow rather than help any widow in Israel.  So, I believe that He was saying He was not going to be performing miracles for them, but rather to others where God would send them.
