Tuesday 25-June 2 Chron 7-9; Ps 78:49-72; 1 Cor 15

2 Chronicles 7:  What was the response of the people gathering at the Temple dedication when fire poured down from heaven? How long did the Temple dedication last?

2 Chronicles 8:  Who did Solomon use for forced labor?

2 Chronicles 9:  Who visited Solomon and why?  What do you notice was left out of the account of Solomon’s life in the ‘Chronicles of the kings’?

1 Corinthians 15: What controversial doctrine is Paul referring to?

Journal Prompt: Read verses 51-52 of 1st Corinthians 15.  Write about how God speaks to you through these verses.

Answers:

2 Chronicles 7:  When the fire came down from heaven, “they bowed down with their faces to the ground on the pavement and worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying, “For he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.”  I think the Temple dedication was seven days and there was an additional seven days for the feast. (But I need to verify this.)

2 Chronicles 8: All the people who were left of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel, from their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the people of Israel had not destroyed—these Solomon drafted as forced labor.

2 Chronicles 9: The Queen of Sheba had heard reports of Solomon’s great wealth and wisdom, so she came to see it with her own eyes. There was no mention of his inordinate number of wives and concubines.  I also find it interesting that there is no criticism of Solomon for his acquisition of so many horses and chariots and the fact that he traded with Egypt.  This is in opposition to God’s commands.

1 Corinthians 15: Apparently some people in the church were spreading a false doctrine  about that there was no resurrection of the dead.
