Journal Prompt: Reflect on Jeremiah’s life. What can you learn from his obedience to God’s commands?
Answers:
Jeremiah 35: Jehoiakim (named Eliakim) was a son (not the first born, Jehohaz) of King Josiah. He was taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar, who put him in chains and carted him off to Babylon (2 Kings 24:1) Remember that Zedekiah was also a son of Josiah. So what is recorded in this chapter actually happened in the previous reign.
Jeremiah served wine for the Rechabites, but they refused, because the father of their sect had commanded them not to drink wine. The Lord used their obedience as a testimony against the Israelites.
Jeremiah 36: The Lord commanded Jeremiah to write the Lord’s warning about the pending doom in hopes that they would repent and return to the Lord. The result was total disobedience – the king actually burned the scroll and we read that he and his advisorr were not even concerned about it.
Revelation 14: Jesus and the 144,000 who survive the tribulation are standing victorious on Mount Zion. The first angel proclaims the gospel to all people. The second angel proclaims the fall of Babylon which has caused the people to fall. The third angel warns against taking the mark of the beast.
