Thursday 14-March Deuteronomy 11-12; Ps 32 Luke 16

Deuteronomy 11: What disciplines are the Israelites to adopt?

Deuteronomy 12: Where were the sacrifices to be made?

Luke 16: What is highly esteemed among men but an abomination to God?
What is the meaning of the rich man and Lazarus?

Journal Prompt: What lesson can you learn from the parable of the dishonest manager?

Answers:

Deuteronomy 11: The Israelites were commanded to: “lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 20 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Deuteronomy 12:  The sacrifices would be made at a place chosen by God within the territories of one of the tribes.

Luke 16:  There are a few things that God hates but in this passage Jesus was directing His comment to the Pharisees who had just ridiculed the parable. They looked good on the outside only to be justified by men. Pride is what they esteemed.

This parable is not to show there is life after death a heaven and a hell but to further show the end of those who take pride in their pretension before men and who loved money more than people. This was directed at the Pharisees again.
