Matthew 21: What verse does Jesus quote when He cleanses the temple of the money changers? What did he do immediately afterwards? Who questioned him? In the parable of the two sons, who are the two sons?
Journal Prompt: Do you think you are more like the older or the younger son and why?
Answers:
Exodus 13: No leaven of any kind could be consumed – nor could they have any in their home for the week leading up to the Passover meal. The more direct route through the promised land would lead them in Philistine territory which would have potentially sparked a war. God felt the Hebrews would retreat to Egypt if faced with a battle. (v. 17) Moses took Joseph’s bones. God’s presence was with them – a pillar of cloud during the day and a pillar of fire at night.
Exodus 14: The Hebrews said to Moses, ‘did you bring us her to die because there weren’t there enough graves in Egypt?’ An angel of the Lord was with Moses.
Matthew 21: Jesus quoted Isaiah 56:7 and Jeremiah 7;11. After overturning the tables he remained in the Temple and healed the blind and lame that came to Him. The chief priests and the scribes questioned him both in v. 16 and in v. 23. In the parable of the two sons, the older son represents the Pharisees and the younger son represents the sinners.
