The greatness/humility paradox

Text: Mark 9:30-37

In this passage where Jesus makes the second prediction of his suffering in Jerusalem, He presents us with a second paradox, and that paradox is this: if you want to go up in life, you must first go down, or if you want to be great in life, you must first of all become like a servant of all.

And His object lesson for that paradoxical path to success is what? A child. A child. A little kid. In fact, do you know that in Aramaic the word  for child is the same as servant? So, to enter the kingdom of God or to enter the glories of God’s dominion you and I must first become like a lowly child, or like a servant to all.
