Genesis 28: Who did Esau marry (in this chapter) and why? Why did Jacob rename Luz to Bethel? What did Jacob commit to doing?

Genesis 29:  What was Rachel’s ‘job’? How did Laban trick Jacob?

Mark 11: Where did Jesus go after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem?  What did He do the next day? Who questioned Jesus’ authority?

Journal Prompt:  Reread verses 24-26.  What does Jesus say about our prayers.  How can you align your prayer life to this teaching?

Genesis 28: Esau married Mahalath, one of Ishmael’s daughters – he realized his parents were upset that he had married Canaanite women, and so it seems he wanted to please them.  God spoke to Jacob in a dream and told him He would be with him and protect him and give him many descendants. Bethel means the house of God.   Jacob committed to tithing.

Genesis 29: Rachel was a shepherdess. Laban had Jacob work for him for seven years in exchange for the hand of his daughter, Rachel.  Then on the wedding night, Laban switched Leah for Rachel and made Jacob work seven more years for Rachel.

Mark 11: After his triumphal entry on the donkey, Jesus went to the Temple Courts – but it was late, so they returned to spend the night in Bethany.  Jesus returned to the Temple Courts and drove out the money changers and those who were selling sacrificial animals and birds. His authority was questions by the chief priests, the teachers of the Law and the elders.
