Judges 7: How large was Gideon’s army when he planned to attach the Midianites, and how large was it when he actually went to battle? Why would the Lord want him to have a smaller army?  What gave Gideon courage to actually attack the Midianites?

Judges 8: What negotiating tactic did Gideon use with the Ephraimites? What was the consequence of the elders of Sukkoth refusing to give bread to Gideon’s army?

Luke 22:  What did Jesus ‘confer’ upon the disciples at the Last supper?

Journal Prompt:  Reread Luke 22:31-32.  What does it mean to you that Satan will tempt us but Jesus prays for our faith?

Judges 7: Gideon’s army began with 30,000 men and the Lord commanded Gideon to go with just 300. God told Gideon that if he was fearful he should go and eavesdrop on the enemy. So, Gideon, obviously fearful, did and was encouraged as the enemy seemed very fearful of God and Gideon.

Judges 8:  The Ephraimites were angry that Gideon had gone to battle without them, so Gideon humbled himself, extolled their capabilities and they were satisfied.  He punished the elders of Sukkoth with desert thorns and briars for their refusal to give bread to his troops.

Luke 22: Jesus conferred a kingdom on the disciples.
