Saturday 11-May-19 2 Sam 15-16; Ps 61; Acts 21

2 Samuel 15: How did Absalom get himself in a place of power? Why do you think David gave up without a fight?

2 Samuel 16: What did Ziba do? Were his actions genuine? What advice did Ahithophel give Abalom?

Acts 21: What advice that seemed to come from the Holy Spirit, did Paul choose not to take?  Who gave him this advice?

Journal Prompt:  Absalom’s actions were pretty despicable, but consider them in light of his relationship with his father.

Answers:

2 Samuel 15:  Absalom was a true politician. He lobbied to get others to think highly of him by pretending he was important and promoting himself behind his father’s back.  Then he lied to David claiming he was going to worship the Lord while he proclaimed himself king.

I think David recognized his poor parenting had a lot to do with why Absalom was claiming the throne.  I also believe that David loved Absalom.  I also believe David trusted God and His will.

2 Samuel 16:  Ziba followed David and offered him food for his journey and he informed David that his master, Mephibosheth was betrayed him and remained in Jerusalem.  Ahithophel advised Absalom to sleep with David’s concubines.

Acts 21:  The disciples in Tyre as well as the disciples, Luke, Agabus and Phillip (and most likely others) advised Paul NOT to go to Jerusalem, but he did not take their advice.
