John 6: Why does Jesus withdraw after the feeding of the 5,000? Which “I am” statement does Jesus make in this chapter and what do you think makes it particularly significant?
Journal Prompt: What is significant to you that Jesus is the Bread of life?
Answers:
Joshua 5: God commanded Joshua to circumcise all of the males – this was crazy, because they were putting themselves at great risk – from a military perspective. All of the men were incapable of defending themselves during this time.
After they celebrated the Passover, the provision of manna stopped.
Joshua 6: Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns and priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant led the procession as the Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho. The walls fell when the trumpets were blasted and the Israelites all shouted. Rahab was rescued by the Israelite spies and she and her family remained with the Israelites ‘to this day’.
John 6: Jesus withdraws from the crowd because He knew they wanted to forcibly make Him king after the miracles of the fish and the loaves.
