Saturday 2-March Numbers 22-23 Ps 27 Luke 6

Numbers 22: Who was Balak and who was Balaam?  What do you remember about Moab?  What do you find interesting aobut Balaam?

Numbers 23: Why did Balak take Balaam to another area to curse them? What was the result of this second attempt?

Luke 6: Ths chapter is so dense in terms of spiritual lessons.  Compare the blessings and the woes.  When will there be great reward in heaven? What does it say about your enemies?

Journal Prompt:  Who is your ‘enemy’?  How are you applying Luke 6:27 and how are you applying Luke 6:28?

Answers:

Numbers 22: Balak was king of Moab at the time.  Balaam must have been considered a prophet for hire (v. 7), because he was asked to curse the Israelites. Moab was one of the sons of Lot (Abraham’s nephew) from an incestuous liaison with his daughters.  (Genesis 19:37-38) .  Balaam  was from the mountains in Aram (although we don’t find this out until the next chapter!).  I find it interesting that Balaam is obviously a pagan yet he speaks with God and is obedient (partially) to God.

Numbers 23: Balaam wasn’t willing to curse them, and Balak seems to think that if they have another perspective Balaam might curse the Israelites, so he takes them to another vantage point. The result was that Balaam prophesied more of a blessing than a curse upon the Israelites!

Luke 6:  On the day that followers of Jesus are persecuted because they have stood up for our Lord, the reward in Heaven will be great. (v. 23)
