Journal Prompt: How can you use Jehoshaphat’s example from chapter 20 when facing attacks from the enemy?
Answers:
2 Chronicles 19: Jehoshaphat removed the Asherah poles, he brought the people back to the Lord and he instituted Levites as priests and judges.
2 Chronicles 20: Jehoshaphat sought help from the Lord and proclaimed a fast throughout Judah. The Lord pitted the enemy against one another – after the battle was won by the Lord, Jehoshaphat and those in their army praised God saying “Give thanks to the Lord, for his steadfast love endures forever.” Then they returned to Jerusalem “with harps and lyres and trumpets”29 And the fear of God came on all the kingdoms of the countries when they heard that the Lord had fought against the enemies of Israel.
2 Chronicles 21: Jehoshaphat’s eldest son was Jehoram. He was married to a daughter of King Ahab and he did not follow the Lord. He killed all his brothers except for one and he erected Asherah poles for the people to worship foreign gods. He died because “his bowels came out because of the disease, and he died in great agony.”
2 Corinthians 3: Both ministries were glorious, but the old ministry brought condemnation, the new ministry brings righteousness. The old ministry was temporary, but the new ministry is eternal. When people read the old ministry, Moses’ law, their faces are veiled – they cannot see clearly; yet when they turn to Christ, their veils are removed and they can understand through the Spirit.
