Monday 27-May 1 Kings 17-18; Job 8; Rom 6

1 Kings 17: What did the Lord command Elijah to do?

1 Kings 18: What did the Lord command Elijah to do in this chapter?  What did Ahab call Elijah?  What test did Elijah challenge the prophets of Baal to?

Romans 6: What is God’s free gift?

Journal Prompt: What does it mean to you to be a ‘slave to righteousness’?

Answers:

1 Kings 17: During a time of drought, he Lord commanded Elijah to hide near a brook east of the Jordan. (The Lord provided him with food from ravens and he drank water from the brook.)  Then the Lord commanded Elijah to a widow’s home in Zarephath which was a Gentile city.

1 Kings 18:  God told Elijah to present himself to Ahab. Ahab called him “the troubler of Israel.”  Elijah challenged the 450 prophets of Baal to a showdown. The prophets and Elijah were given a bull to be slaughtered – they prepared altars and waited for their god (in Elijah’s case, God) to send fire down to consume the offering.  Elijah actually drenched his altar with water to make it even less likely for an offering to be burned.

Romans 6:  God’s free gift is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
