Friday 4-Oct-19 Jer 1-2; Ps 119:33-40; 1 John 5

Jeremiah 1: Under the reigns of which kings did Jeremiah serve as a prophet? Upon receiving his calling from the Lord, was Jeremiah a willing servant?

Jeremiah 2: What was the first message he was to give to the Israelites?

1 John 5: What are sins that lead to death? What are sins that do not lead to death?

Journal Prompt:  We learn in the first chapter of the book of Jeremiah that he was reluctant to answer God’s call.  Are you prepared to serve the Lord when He calls you?  What shortcomings do you believe stand in the way?

Answers:

Jeremiah 1: Jeremiah worked under the reigns of Josiah, and Zedekiah.  When he first received his call from God, he said he was not the right candidate – he didn’t speak well and he was too young.

Jeremiah 2:  In this chapter, God instructs Jeremiah to go to the people in Judah and  remind them of all that God has done for them and convict them for having turned away from God.  He rebukes them for having turned to idols and for seeking alliances with Egypt.

1 John 5: John tells us the first thing we should do if we see a believer sinning is to pray for that person. Sins that do not lead to death are those that people do but they try to stop doing. Sins that lead to death would be turning away from God and denouncing Him.
