Essentially, the Book of Deuteronomy is a sermon – or a series of sermons, preached by Moses to Israel as they were on the verge of entering the Holy Land. Moses preached with a heavy and passionate heart as he had led them for forty years, but would not be accompanying them past this point.

Answers:
Deuteronomy 1&2: After defeating Kings Og and Sihon, Moses reminds the Israelites of God’s faithfulness and love, but also of God’s wrath on the previous generation of Israelites because of their rebellion. Repeatedly he charges Israel to keep the Law. Deuteronomy is a solemn call to love and obey the one true God.
Luke 11: One becomes clean – not by external washing, but my giving alms to the poor – doing things for the kingdom.
