Friday 25-Jan-19 Exodus 15-16 Prov 11 Matt 22

Exodus 15: What did the people of Israel complain about in the wilderness of Shur? b. What happened when Moses threw a tree into the waters?

Exodus 16: How long had it been since Israel had left Egypt and until they were in the Wilderness of Sin? What were the children of Israel complaining about now? On the day before the Sabbath, how much food were they to gather? What happened with the extra that was gathered? When were they to prepare this extra food?

Proverbs 11: What is an abomination to the Lord? What cannot deliver you from death?

Matthew 22: In the parable of the wedding feast, why are both the good and the bad invited to the feast? How will God know the difference? Why did the Pharisees and Sadducees keep questioning Jesus?

Journal Prompt: How can we be like the Hebrews who in spite of seeing miracle after miracle (the plagues, the provision of gold and silver, the parting of the Red Sea, etc.) be quick to complain? (Even though their complaint and ours at times seems to be valid?)

Answers:

Exodus 15:  After leaving the Red Sea they traveled for three days into the wilderness of Shur but they found no water.  They came to a place where there was water, but it was bitter and they complained to Moses.  God told Moses to throw a tree (log) into the water and it became sweet.

Exodus 16: They had wandered for two and a half months.  They were complaining that they had no food. (For some reason they must not have wanted to sacrifice the herds of livestock that they left Egypt with.) On the day before the Sabbath they were to collect twice as much was gathered that day. The extra gathered this day remained good overnight. The Sabbath day’s meal was prepared the day before the Sabbath.

Proverbs 11: The Lord hates dishonesty or deceptiveness. Riches will not deliver you from death.

Matthew 22: All are invited but some will not be covered by the blood of Jesus. b. God’s Spirit is in the ones who have done His will. The Pharisees and Sadducees wanted to trap Him into saying something that they could use against Him.
