Friday 5-April Joshua 15-16; Eccl 5:10-20; John 11

Joshua 15: Who did Caleb have to drive out to take his allotted land.

Joshua 16: Who did the Ephraimites fail to drive out of  their territory?

Eccl 5:10-20: What happens when one loves money?

John 11: Read this chapter very carefully.  Did Jesus believe Lazarus had died when he received the news?  What was Martha’s ‘complaint’?  What “I am” statement does Jesus make in this chapter and why?

Journal Prompt: It seems that Jesus knew that He could raise Lazarus from the dead.  Why do you suppose He wept?  What does that mean to you?

Answers:

Joshua 15: He had to remove the sons of Anak (remember these were giants), and the inhabitants of Debir.

Johsua 16: The Ephraimites failed to drive out the Canaanites  – they remained and worked as forced laborers.

Ecclesiastes 5: 10-20: Those who love money become unsatisfied.

John 11:  Yes, because He first replied that he was sleeping intimating that He would raise Lazarus from the dead. Mary complained that if Jesus had arrived sooner, Lazarus would not have died – even though she acknowledged that he would rise again in the resurrection.

I am the resurrection and the life.
