Monday, April 6 Joshua 18-21; Psalm 15; Luke 18

Joshua 18 & 19: Where was the Tabernacle set up? What does this imply for the Levites? What special allotment was given at the end of chapter 19 and where was it?

Joshua 20: What was the purpose for establishing cities of refuge?

Joshua 21: In whose territories were the towns and pasturelands for the Levites?

Luke 18: Why did the judge finally give the woman justice?  What is the lesson in this parable? What was the prayer of the tax collector (v. 9-14)?  What was the prayer of the blind beggar? What did he call Jesus (v. 38)

Journal Prompt: In light of the pandemic we are facing, review Jesus’ teaching about prayer in Luke 18: v 1, 10-13, 35-43. Write about your attitude toward prayer in the coming days and weeks.

Joshua 18 & 19: The Tabernacle or Tent was set up in Shiloh.  I was thinking about what this meant for a large portion of the tribe of the Levites.  Their primary responsibility was to set-up, take down and transport the Tabernacle as the Israelites moved about in the wilderness.  Now they are without work.  Think about that as we read about the allotment of the land to the Levites in chapter 19!  Shiloh was now established as the central place for worship, but we obviously know that eventually the Temple will be built in Jerusalem.  Part of the Levites were the priests (descendants of Aaron) but these other Levites were given cities and grazing land throughout the territories of each of the twelve tribes.  Obviously it was impossible to worship in Jerusalem on a regular basis, so the Levites were now to be teachers of the Law in their respective areas.

Joshua 20: Cities of refuge were established to protect those accused of crimes prior to receiving a fair trial (or until the chief priest died)

Joshua 21:  This was answered above!

Luke 18: The judge finally gave the woman justice because she persisted in asking him, not because he was a righteous person.  The lesson is that we are to pray continuously and never give up! (v. 1)
