Psalm 27:4 “One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek Him in His temple.” As we discussed yesterday, for David “the house of the LORD” was the very presence of God on earth. With that in mind, I personalized this verse and prayed it this way. “One thing I ask of You, O LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in Your presence, in intimate relationship with You all the days of my life and be closely connected, intertwined with a local church where I can worship You. In Your presence and in Your church I find my safety.” Have you ever “personalized” a Scripture passage before? Of course we must be careful to not make the scriptures say something contrary to the original meaning. But, as the Holy Spirit guides us, it is a wonderful way to make Scripture come alive even more in prayer.
Psalm 57:9-11 “I will praise You, O Lord among the nations. I will sing of You among the peoples. For great is Your love, reaching to the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let Your glory be over all the earth.” Perhaps this prayer sounds familiar. That’s because we have sung it before in church. Here it is for your listening / worship pleasure.
Psalm 147:11 “The LORD delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.” I wrote this in my journal, “I ‘fear’ (honor / revere) You, O LORD; I put my hope in Your unfailing love! Therefore, according to Your Word, I ask that You ‘delight’ in me!” Go ahead – pray it for yourself! How amazing that we can ask GOD to delight in us!
See you in worship tomorrow! It’s going to be another great morning. After service we have our monthly potluck. I hope you can plan to stay and enjoy some laughter, fellowship and good food. (and for some of us, Dominoes!)
