It’s Friday already! Believe it or not we’re already 1/6th of the way through our Adventure in the Psalms. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am! Today, Psalms 5, 35, 65, 95 and 125.
Psalm 5
Verse 3 “In the morning, O LORD, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait in expectation.” Thank You Lord for the privilege of prayer. We humans can talk with You, the Eternal, Holy, Omnipotent Divine One. Wow!
Verse 7 “I by Your great mercy, will come into Your (presence); in reverence will I bow down…” If you are at home, or if you are by yourself, why don’t you do something radical: in reverence BOW before Him. That’s right – move from where you are now and kneel before God in humble adoration. Spend up to a minute on your knees (which is an outward demonstration of our inner humbling of ourselves before the Holy One). For practical reasons we can’t do it in church on Sundays. Why not worship this way right now. Go for it!! If you do, I’d love to hear about it.
Verse 11 “Let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy. …Those who love Your Name may rejoice in You.” The countdown is on – only two more days till we gather together for worship. We will sing for joy! As we focus on God as holy we will honor the Hebrew name for God Jehovah – Mekaddishkem: The God Who Makes Us Holy. We love His Name and we will rejoice! J
Psalm 35
Verses 27b “The LORD be exalted Who delights in the well-being of His servant(s)” (That would be US!) I love that “title” for God: He is the God Who delights in our well-being. Where did we ever get the idea that God was some vindictive Deity just waiting to pour out His wrath on us when we mess up. That is so NOT the God of the Bible, our God. He is a God “Who delights in the well-being of His servant(s).” I love it!
Psalm 65
Verse 3 “When we were overwhelmed by sins, You forgave our transgressions.” Amen! ALL our sins are forgiven through Jesus. This grace is ours for the asking! How can anyone not love this God?!
Psalm 95
Verses 6-7 “Come let us bow down in worship, (there’s that “bowing down” again) let us kneel before the LORD our Maker, for He is our God and we are the people of His pasture, the flock under His care.” The Hebrew Name for “The LORD our Maker” is Jehovah-Hoseenu. I wish I could take the time to explain the BEAUTY of this Name for our God. If you have some extra time, “google” “Jehovah-Hoseenu”. It’s well worth the effort, as you come to know He is “Jehovah-Hoseenu, the LORD our Maker.”
Psalm 125
Verse 5b “Peace be upon Israel.” Will you join me in praying for peace in Israel and an end to the war in Gaza and the suffering of so many innocent human beings? “Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, bring peace to Israel. In particular bring an end to the suffering in Gaza. In Jesus’ Name. Amen”
See you Sunday!
