Psalm 3
“To the LORD I cry aloud and He answers me.” (verse 3) I wrote this in my journal when I read this verse, “I praise You for You are ‘My Prayer-Answering God.” (It’s not one of the Name of God we will discover in our mid-week group praying through the Names of God. In fact, I just made it up. But it’s a good one! Our God is “our Prayer-Answering God!) Aren’t you glad He is! And then I went on to write, “THANK YOU for hearing and answering prayers. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayers!” Go ahead – say it out loud right now (if you’re by yourself): I praise You as ‘my prayer-answering God!’ THANK YOU for answering prayer. Thank you for answering my prayers.
“I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.” Again, I wrote in my journal, “Thank You for the gift of restoring sleep!” (And for me, “Thank You that it is so easy for me to fall asleep.” Kim may not be quite so thankful that I fall asleep so easily! ). If you fall asleep easily, go ahead and give Him thanks!
Psalm 33
“Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him.” (verse 1). Consider this your early invitation to join us for corporate worship this Sunday. We “the righteous” (remember “The Divine Exchange from 2 Corinthians 5:21?) will gather together and one thing we will do is praise Him in song and spoken word. This Sunday we will worship God for He is holy. Our hymn, the classic, “Holy! Holy! Holy!” It’s going to be a great time of worship together!
“The LORD is… faithful in all He does.” (Verse 4b) Amen!
“In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy Name.” (verse 21). Remember the words of Exodus 20:24b, “Wherever I cause my Name to be honored, I will come to You and bless you.” The Name of God that we are “honoring” and focusing on this Sunday is Jehovah-Mekaddishkem (that is the Hebrew Name for God meaning “The LORD Who makes you holy.”) Come learn about it! Again, it’s going to be great!
Psalm 63
Back in the 70’s several verses from this psalm were set to music. Here’s the Youtube link. (It’s “a little dated” but for some of us “old timers” it brings a smile to our face to remember it).
Psalm 93
The LORD reigns! (Nothing more need be said!)
Psalm 123
When I read the words of verse 2 (go ahead and look it up. I’ll wait for you! J ) this was my prayer: “Help me, O LORD, to keep my eyes fixed on you and not get sidetracked / distracted.” O.K., let me add one more “golden oldie chorus”, but this one was updated some by Michael W. Smith. Hope you enjoy it. It’s a great prayer song.
See you here tomorrow. (Only 4 days till we gather on Sunday! I can’t wait!)
