Hosea 1: What did God command Hosea to do? What do Hosea’s children symbolize?
Hosea 2: Who is the mother God refers to?What did Israel continue to observe that God would cause to cease?
Journal Prompt: Consider Hosea 2:5-8. How do you struggle today with giving the credit to other people rather than to God for the things that He has given you?
Answers:
Hosea 1: God commanded Hosea to marry and adulterous wife, have a child with her and name him Jezreel.
1st child: Jezreel, symbolized the promise to Jehu that his sons would sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation. After this Israel would be taken captive (2Ki. 10:30-31).
2 child – Lo-Ruhama – she symbolized God’s position against Israel – no mercy.
3 child: LoAmmi – he symbolized that God would separate Himself from Israel.
Hosea 2: The ‘mother’ that God refers to is Israel – here portrayed as an adulterous wife. Israel was continuing to observe all of the appointed festival, but God would make sure they stopped.
