Journal Prompt: After reading Jesus’ warnings to the seven churches, which warning convicts you personally?
Answers:
Jeremiah 13: Jeremiah was commanded to place a loincloth under a rock near the Euphrates – leave it there for many days. When he recovered it – it was spoiled. The loincloth was like the people of Israel – as long as they clung to God, they were his pride and joy, but once they turned to other gods – they were spoiled and worthless.
Jeremiah 14: The Lord told Jeremiah that the prophets were lying and saying that neither sword nor famine would come to Israel. The Lord said the prophets would die by sword and famine.
Revelation 3
Commendation | Warning | Command | Reward for those who conquer
Sardis | Wake up – their faith was dead – they had ‘incomplete’ works | Repent | Clothed in white – Jesus will never blot their name out of the book of life. He will confess his name before God and His angels.
Philadelphia | They kept His word and did not deny His name. | Hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown | Because they kept my word about patient endurance, He will keep them from the hour of trial. He will make them a pillar in the temple of God and upon them He will write God’s name and the name of Jerusalem.
Laodicea | Your works are lukewarm | Be zealous and repent. | He will grant them to sit with Him on His throne |
