Saturday 25-May 1 Kings 15-16; Ps 67; Romans 5

We find ourselves in the unfolding saga of the good kings and bad kings – of a country that was once blessed but is now divided and facing the consequences of their ungodliness.  We will be hearing again about this period in history when we read 1st and 2nd Chronicles, so keep that in mind. I am posting a document which may make the progression of this history easier to understand.  I strongly suggest you print out a copy of the file and keep it with you as you read through these chapters.  I will have copies available at church tomorrow!

1 Kings 15:  Why did Asa remove his grandmother as queen?  Who killed the household of Jeroboam?

1 Kings 16: Who did Isarel want as king in place of Zimri?  Who challenged Omri as king?  What city was built by Omri?  Who tried to rebuild the city of Jericho? What prophecy of Joshua was fulfilled?

Romans 5: Whose trespass led to death for all?

Journal Prompt: Why does Paul suggest we rejoice in our sufferings?

Answers:

1 Kings 15:  His grandmother, was a regent queent, and she had built an image of a Canaanite goddess so Asa removed her.

Baasha killed the household of Jeroboam..

1 Kings 16:Israel wanted Omni in place of Zimri.  Tibni challenged Omri as king.  Samaria was build by Omri.  Hiel’s firstborn and his youngest son were killed in the rebuilding of the city.

Romans 5:  Our “suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” The trespass of Adam in the Garden of Eden led to death for all mankind.  The righteous act of Jesus – dying for the sins of all the world (who believe in Him) and His resurrection leads to life for all mankind.
