Monday 6-May 2 Sam 5-6; Eccl 12:1-8; Acts 16

2 Samuel 5 & 6: Why did David become king over all of Israel?  How did he capture the fortress in Jerusalem?  What did David and his men carry off from the Philistines?  What happened to the ark? Why?

Acts 16:  Who joined Paul and Silas? What did they do when they visited different cities?

Journal Prompt:

Answers:

2 Samuel 5-6:  David honored the house of Saul including Abner (Saul’s commander) and Ish-Boseth (Saul’s son).  He killed those who sided against Saul, and this must have won him the trust of the tribes that Saul led.  Once Saul and his heir was dead, the elders of Israel joined those of Judah who had already turned to David as king.

He entered and conquered Jerusalem through the water shafts – the Jebusites living there thought the fortress was impregnable.

David and his men carried off the idols left behind by the Philistines.

Acts 16: Timothy joined Paul and Silas. They went to the different cities and “delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem.”  They strengthened the faith of the believers in the churches.
