1 Kings 10-11; 2 Chronicles 9
In the 1st Kings passages we see how Solomon allowed the ‘things of this world’ to become his primary passion and driving force. Genesis 2:23-24 and Deuteronomy 17:16 are just two areas where we see him blatantly breaking God’s law. The book of Ecclesiastes seems to sum up the result of his pursuit after all things under the sun.
What lessons can we learn from Solomon? Think of the opportunity he had to expand God’s kingdom and bless Israel and other nations.
“Furthermore, through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my command.”Genesis 22:18
Yet not only did he not extend the kingdom of the Lord, his actions resulted in a divided kingdom which lost God’s favor.
