“Under the sun” perspective on life
Solomon’s search for wisdom seems to be more appropriately explained as the search for the meaning of life. He spent his entire life trying to grasp something that is unknowable. And he describes that as folly and vanity. You can sense his frustration and a sense of emptiness after having devoted his life to something which eluded him. Yet in other verses Solomon does seem to come to grasp with purpose in life (3:9-11; 3:12-15; 4:9-12)
If you could put a title on these first 6 chapters, what would it be?
